Amidst the pandemic and challenges to the retail industry, the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) continued to spearhead the promotion of the Retail Employees’ Day (RED) in the country to spark inspiration among retail employees and thank them for their continued service during this challenging period.

Some of the biggest retailers in the country came together to show their gratitude to their retail frontliners last December 12, 2020 by giving out treats, hanging Thank You posters, and conducting various activities for their employees and their communities.
PRA members including SM Retail, Wilcon Depot, Bench, Golden ABC (Penshoppe), Qourum Group (Toby’s Sports), Riverbanks Off Price, Wacoal, and Expressions joined the annual celebration.

The RED project is a global celebration to show appreciation to the retail employees– specially frontliners. Launched in India by the Trust for Retailers & Retail Associates of India (TRRAIN) in 2011, the RED was later on adopted in various parts of the world, including the Philippines in 2018. Over 700 brands and six million employees have been participating in the celebration since then, with largest participation in India, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates, and Bangladesh.

In the Philippines, The PRA has been in the forefront of the RED celebration in the country since 2018, recognizing the importance of showing gratitude to the retail employees’ incredible service especially during the pandemic, when the retail industry faced a slump as a result of quarantine measures and store closures.

“This is an important day to boost the morale of our retail frontliners and show them that we care and we can overcome this challenging period for the retail industry,” PRA President Rosemarie Ong said.

Over the years, the celebration seeks to encourage employers as well as customers to recognize the efforts of retail employees across the country and create awareness among retail employees of the significant role they play in the lives of the customers and in the business they serve.
