PLDT bags recognition as best Ethernet retail service provider in Asia-Pacific

MANILA – Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co (PLDT) has gained recognition as Asia-Pacific’s retail service provider of the year during the recently held 2014 Metro Ethernet Forum.

Held in Washington D.C., the Ethernet Excellence Awards recognized PLDT for its e-Access certified service demonstrating commitment to standards excellence. The service has more than 6,000 carrier Ethernet 2.0 certified nodes, a larger pool of MEF-Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals and excellent customer relationships with end-users in Asia-Pacific.

The Philippine telco also holds the distinction of being the only provider nominated in four other categories, including Best Application of the Year-Government, Best Service of the Year-Asia Pacific, Wholesale Service Provider of the Year-Asia Pacific and MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professional of the Year.

Metro Ethernet Forum is an international organization of telecom companies, network equipment manufacturers and semiconductor vendors that aim to expand adoption of Ethernet service.

Alberto, who is both PLDT executive vice president and ePLDT president.

The panel of judges included global and regional senior analysts from IDC, Infonetics, Vertical Systems, Gartner, Frost & Sullivan, Ovum, the Rayno Report, as well as independent judges.

“This award from Metro Ethernet Forum further encourages us to pursue excellence in providing future-proof Carrier Ethernet 2.0 certified solutions that are truly at par with global standards, ably addressing critical business needs of our enterprise customers,” said Jovy Hernandez, who is both PLDT first vice president and PLDT Alpha Enterprise head.

PLDT has also been the first service provider in the world to obtain CE 2.0 certifications for all eight Ethernet services in 2013. Beyond the technology, PLDT also invests in enhancing the Ethernet certifications and capabilities of its engineers and personnel, of whom 66 are MEF Carrier Ethernet Certified Professionals.

PLDT is a three-time winner of the MEF Carrier Ethernet Award for Best Marketing Campaign. It is also the only Philippine telecommunications provider consistently nominated as an MEF finalist for Regional Service Provider of the Year, Best Carrier Ethernet Business Application, and Best Wholesale Ethernet Service. The company is the only Philippine telecommunications provider to win any MEF award.
