SINGAPORE – Philippine President Benigno Aquino made a pitstop at Jollibee in Lucky Plaza on Wednesday, the second and final day of a visit here.

He was received like a rock star by a small gathering of Filipinos, who cheered and clamoured to take photos of him as he dined at the Orchard Road shopping mall outlet.

Jollibee is a fast food chain from the Philippines known for its crispy fried chicken. The Lucky Plaza branch is the only one in Singapore.

Psychologist Din Din Tagorda, 61, was shopping in the area and decided to wait at Lucky Plaza to catch a glimpse of President Aquino.

“I admire the President because he is very clean and kind, and I feel that the Philippines has made progress under him,” said Ms Tagorda, who has been in Singapore for four years.

She waited an hour to see the Philippine President.

On Tuesday, Mr Aquino was hosted to lunch by President Tony Tan Keng Yam at the Istana. He also met Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. During their meetings, the leaders reaffirmed close ties between Singapore and the Philippines.
