The Gaisano-led Metro Retail Stores Group Inc., (MRSGI) recently inaugurated a new warehouse in Cebu, adding another distribution facility to its operations as part of optimizing its logistics footprint, the firm announced on Thursday.

In a statement, MRSGI said the additional leased warehouse located in Tingub, Cebu is in
line with the company’s strategic program to continuously modernize its logistics and supply chain processes.

The 6,500-square meter facility is equipped with nine docks and sufficient parking space for simultaneous truck deliveries.

MRSGI Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Frank Gaisano said the inauguration of the additional warehouse is also in line with firm’s goal of becoming a leader in not just the retail industry but in also retail supply management.

“Every aspect of our operations is founded on our vision to deliver world-class services to our customers,” Gaisano said “This initiative further bolsters our capabilities to ensure constant availability of products in our 47-strong store network and underscores our commitment to becoming the leader in retail supply chain management.”

MRSGI noted that the new warehouse uses a digital infrastructure system, specifically the ORACLE Warehouse Management System, and is supported by a highly trained team that oversees end-to-end warehouse processes.

“These impressive capabilities ensure that the facility meets the performance metrics set by the Good Warehouse Practices and Standards,” MRSGI said.

Other amenities of the newly inaugurated warehouse include dock levelers at receiving
bays, a roll-up door, and CCTVs to monitor the constant flow of goods and ensure security and ease of operations.

MRSGI added that the inauguration of the new warehouse is in line of the firm’s optimization of its logistics footprint in Cebu, by shifting to a fully MRSGI-operated warehouse from one previously run by a third party logistics (3PL) provider.

Also part of the firm’s logistics and supply chain modernization program is MRSGI’s recent expansion of its in-house delivery fleet and improvement of its logistics technology, as the company acquired new trucks equipped with tracking devices that enable real-time monitoring of the delivery of goods to its various stores.

“Excellence is a value that drives us to constantly look for ways to bring MRSGI to the next level,” Gaisano said. “As we continue to grow our business, we want to ensure that we can adeptly support the needs that come with expansion, and building our in-house supply chain capability enables us to achieve that.”

MRSGI is the largest department store and hypermarket operator, and the second-largest supermarket operator in 2014 in terms of retail sales value, according to Euromonitor. It has stores in areas such as Central, Western and Eastern Visayas, and as well Metro Manila and South Luzon.
