As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, Metro Retail Stores Group Inc. (MRSGI) offers its patrons various products for a cause.

Dubbed “Metro Community Bazaar,” the shopping activities are ongoing at Metro Supermarket in Market! Market! Taguig until July 8, and Metro Supermarket Alabang, Muntinlupa, and Mandaue, Cebu, until the end of the month.

Different items produced by partner-organizations of the publicly listed firm are available, including the upcycled accessories from the Artisan Women of Tondo, an economic empowerment program supported by The Coca-Cola Co.; food products from Caritas Margins, and Moringa Tea and Powder products from GreenEarth Foundation Inc.

Also featured at the event are the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Caritas Segunda Mana, Coca-Cola Philippines, Habitat for Humanity Philippines, Philippine Red Cross and St. Arnold Janssen Kalinga Center.

Timely to the National Corporate Social Responsibility month, this project is done in cooperation with Vicsal Foundation Inc., the nonstock, nonprofit private organization that champions the CSR initiatives of the Vicsal Group of Co., which incorporates MRSGI.

Cebu-based MRSGI posted a 65-percent increase net profit to P148.8 million in the first quarter of this year, from P90.2 million during the same period in 2018.

Net sales reached P7.7 billion, or 10.9 percent higher than P6.97 billion for the first three months last year.

The retailer’s improved performance could be attributed to the opening of three new stores in the second half of 2018 and the re-opening of Metro Supermarket Ayala Center Cebu.

Same store sales also grew by 3.8 percent from January to March of 2019.
