Megaworld Corp will open a PHP2.2 billion (US$42.6 million) “pet-friendly” mall in Iloilo City in April.
Expected to create at least 3,500 jobs, the developer’s first full-scale mall in the Visayas will feature open spaces, vertical gardens and an interactive dog park, says Megaworld Lifestyle Malls senior VP Kevin Tan.
Over three levels, Festive Walk Mall has a gross floor space of 90,000sqm with 40,000sqm in leasable space. It is in the 72ha Iloilo Business Park, a mixed-use complex in Mandurriao district. It is beside Richmonde Hotel Iloilo and Iloilo Convention Center.
Tan says the group expects the mall to have 75% occupancy when it opens. Its main features include seven cinemas with lounge chairs, and Dolby Atmos cinemas that offer surround-sound technology. There will also be two supermarkets (run by Metro Retail Stores Group and SM Group), a department store, home essentials store, toy store and a food hall.
The shaded open-air dog park will be on the third level of the mall alongside gardens and a chapel. Other activity and event attractions include an outdoor centre and a children’s playground.
With a main building and annex, the mall will be connected to the 1.1km Festive Walk Parade via elevated walkways and bridges.
With four malls coming up, Megaworld expects to end the year with 18 malls. “We are on track to hit 28 malls by 2020,” says Tan.
