To help alleviate the anticipated heavier traffic during the coming Holidays, shopping malls in Metro Manila agreed to adjust mall operating hours starting Nov 5, 2018 to January 14, 2019.
In a recent consultative meeting held at the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) headquarters, General Manager Jojo Garcia and representative of shopping mall operators have agreed to implement the following action plans: Shopping mall operators located on major thoroughfares in Metro Manila will begin their operations by 11 am, an hour later from the usual 10 am opening time, during weekdays; shopping mall operators to deploy additional security personnel to facilitate long lines of vehicles going inside mall parking areas that cause traffic gridlock; removal of obstructions on loading and unloading stations in the vicinity of shopping malls; limiting deliveries of non-perishable goods only at night-time or from 11 pm to 5 am; and no weekday sale policy.
Garcia said shopping malls are considered traffic generators during the holidays and delaying their operating hours by an hour could help ease traffic situation in Metro Manila.
There are at least 15 shopping malls located on EDSA alone.
Among those who attended the meeting are representatives from SM Supermalls, Ayala malls, Robinsons, Meralco, Globe, PLDT, Maynilad, and Manila Water Company.
