A new player in the sports retail game announced their arrival in Manila last February 8th, as INTERSPORTS Philippines officially launched their first store in Southeast Asia at the Ayala Malls Vertis North in Quezon City, Philippines.
A 500-square meter haven for every sports junkie located at the ground floor of Ayala Vertis North, INTERSPORT features a wide array of footwear, clothing and apparel, and equipment catered to towards the ‘performance athlete’ as explained by Visionary CEO Anton Gonzalez.
“One thing that’s good about INTERSPORT is it’s global, it’s a global concept and nowadays, in the age of globalization, it’s very important to grow concepts that are global in nature. It’s very important to us to grow around the world and have our opportunity in the Philippines.” Gonzalez added.
INTERSPORT carries some of the world’s leading sportswear and apparel brands such as NIKE, adidas, New Balance, Asics, and Mizuno among others, covering sports such as basketball, running, swmming, cross training, and many others.
Founded in 1968 in Europe, INTERSPORT continues to grow today, and currently has 5,500 stores worldwide, including the Vertis North branch.
According to Gonzalez, Quezon City is just the first stop of INTERSPORT in the Philippines, and they plan to expand all throughout the archipelago.
“We would like to grow in other parts of Manila and the Philippines, probably areas like Makati,Fort Bonifacio, the MoA area, Cebu.”
“Probably because the concept is quite large, we’ll probably start building in the larger metropolitan areas because he have to build it at 500 to a thousand square meters.”
Thursday, Feburary 22nd, the official ribbon-cutting of INTERSPORTS Vertis North took place and among the athletes in attendance were UAAP stars Alyssa Valdez, Thirdy Ravena, Jules Samonte, Michelle Gohing and Camille Cruz, as well as PBA legend Willie Miller.
