More Chinese are becoming increasingly health-conscious that resulted in increasing demand for wafer biscuits and fruit snacks.
This is based on the recent Euromonitor Digest, released by the Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau. It says that wafers recorded strong current value sales growth in 2018 despite falling sales within sweet biscuits in China.
“This was partly due to the success of manufacturers in catering to the growing preference for savory flavors, which many consumers perceive as being healthier than sweeter options,” it said.
The report noted current value growth was also bolstered by rising demand for recently launched imported products made with high quality ingredients.
Positioned as naturally healthy products, the report also said fruit snacks are generally perceived as a healthier alternative to other types of snacks that are high in artificial additives.
