Cebu-based restaurant Golden Cowrie plans to open 10 more branches in Manila and Mindanao by the end of the year.

Executive committee member Earl Kokseng said that they have spent the past few years expanding in Visayas and Mindanao, and now that they have branches in every key city in those regions, they feel that there’s a lot of room for expansion in Manila.

Golden Cowrie Filipino Kitchen menu includes reinterpretations of classic dishes such as Miki Negra with squid-ink sauce, pomelo salad with singkamas and calamansi dressing, and Pocherong Katag.

The restaurant has 31 branches in 18 key cities, 10 of which are company-owned outlets in Cebu. The rest are franchises.

Golden Cowrie started expanding to Luzon last year, spending P20 million (US$398,000) to put up a commissary that would support its operations there. It currently has five stores in Metro Manila, with the first Filipino Kitchen launching in November.

Kokseng said the new branches will all be franchises, with their concept depending on the market segment they will address.
