Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) President Atty. Paul A. Santos highlighted the importance of the local retail industry in going global during the 2017 1st Quarter General Members’ Meeting (GMM) on March 16, 2017 in Marco Polo Hotel, Pasig City.
He shared how the PRA is working for its members for more opportunities to have exposure abroad. Early this year, the PRA has joined the Forum for International Retail Association Executives (FIRAE), to which President Santos said an opportunity to link to and network with foreign counterparts.
“This membership—together with our active role in the Federation of Asia Pacific Retailers Associations or FAPRA, of which our Chairman Enchong Formoso is the current Chair—brings the PRA full circle as we are now part of two global organizations with footprints that extend worldwide,” President Santos said during the opening of the GMM.
“We intend to make full use of this network to promote and help our members become globally competitive.”
FIRAE is a global organization of retailers associations from Europe and the Americas.
This year, the PRA will also conduct an International Retail Study Mission, as a result of successful International Study Tour in Japan last year.
According to President Santos, the mission will aim to understand the market and market potentials of the country being visited.
“This is geared for those who are looking at expanding to new markets abroad. This is initially being planned for Vietnam and Myanmar or Thailand,” he continued.
During the GMM, the PRA also awarded members who have been in the organization for over 20 years and those who have actively participated in the association’s activities and events.
More than 30 members were presented with loyalty awards for being a PRA member for 20-21 years while another 30 members were honored for their active participation in PRA’s activities and events last year. Likewise, active committee members were given awards during the event.
The GMM also featured presentations from experts led by BDO Unibank Senior Vice-President Mr. Frederico Rafael D. Ocampo who discussed about “Investing in the New World Order.”
Other presenters were Director for Santos Knight Frank, Inc. Research & Consultancy Mr. Alvin Fernandez who discussed about 2017 Retail Market Outlook and Retail Industry Leader for Sap Southeast Asia Mr. Mock Seng Chong who presented “Retail is Live.”
