“Recognizing the country's retailers who have epitomized the model of a successful retailer in terms of growth and good ethical practices"
The PRA believes that the Filipino retailer has all the makings of a world-class retailer. Launched in 1997, the OFR is a collaboration of the Philippine Retailers Association (PRA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI). It was a thoughtful move by the private sector in the face of retail liberalization which opened the Philippine market to foreign retailers. The perceived threat by local retailers turned to opportunity as more retailers heeded the call to raise the bar of local retailing. They responded by investing in training, technology and adopting world class-standards and best practices for their organization.

The new millennia saw a boom in shopping center development which led the PRA to create the Shopping Center of the Year Award in 2002. This was added to the OFR Awards in recognition of Philippine world-class retail/shopping centers that promote the growth and development of the industry.
In 2006, recognizing the rise of regional retail development, PRA added to its roster of awards the category of Regional Retailer and Regional Shopping Center of the Year. This in turn honored the best retailers and shopping center developers outside of Metro Manila as they were able to stand at par with their peers in Metro Manila.
Through its recognition of world-class Filipino retailers, the award has, and continues to foster the growth and development of the Philippine retail industry. Each year it raises its bar a notch higher as more and more Filipino retailers are able to hurdle the challenges of innovation and globalization
The Philippine Retailers Association and the Department of Trade and Industry launched the Search for OUTSTANDING FILIPINO RETAILERS 2010. The award now on its 14th year, seeks to encourage Filipino retailers to adopt world-class standards and practices and be globally competitive. The award will recognize the Filipino Retailers who have epitomized the model of a successful retailer in terms of growth and good ethical practices.
